Job Description Reports To: Head Band Director / Building Principal Primary Job Function: The Assistant Marching Band Director assists in leadership, musical instruction, and operational management of the marching band program, facilitating student growth through rehearsals and performances outside of regular school hours. Minimum Qualifications Valid State of Ohio Pupil Activity Permit (PAP) with current CPR, First Aid, Concussion, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest certifications. Satisfactory results of state and federal background checks. Proven experience in music education or marching band leadership. Preferred Qualifications Valid Ohio Teaching License in Music (K-12). Experience with OMEA adjudication standards. Expertise in specific instrument pedagogy or drill design. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with the Head Director to select performance pieces that challenge students and meet adjudicated event standards. Lead sectional and full-ensemble rehearsals to prepare students for 3–6 adjudicated events annually. Direct students during high-profile community events including the Reynoldsburg 4th of July Parade, Tomato Festival, Livingston House Concert Series, and varsity football games. Coordinate booking of indoor and outdoor rehearsal and performance facilities. Assist in planning and execution of summer camps and rehearsals, including mandatory attendance at a 5-night resident camp away from campus. Ensure administrative compliance by verifying collection and documentation of pay-to- participate student fees in coordination with the athletic/music department. Assume full responsibility for student conduct, safety, and well-being during all rehearsal nights, performance nights, and travel. Maintain a professional and disciplined environment aligned with district policies and the "Portrait of an Educator" values. Attend the Annual Appreciation Concert and additional community/district performances as scheduled by the Head Director. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Marching band pedagogy and drill execution; OMEA rules and regulations; Ohio school safety protocols and student fee management policies. Skilled in: Musical conducting and instruction; group dynamics and student motivation; organizational logistics and facility scheduling. Ability to: Commit to an extensive seasonal schedule including nights, weekends, and overnight camps; communicate effectively with parents and boosters; maintain high musical standards under performance pressure. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Physically required to sit or stand, move around for extended periods, and occasionally push, pull, lift or carry over 25 pounds. May experience occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue; may need to interact with unruly children. Driving to various school sites or events may be required.
